Expert meeting of the Alumni Academy "Challenges in the application of FIDIC rules in construction contracts - Challenges from practice"

An expert meeting on the topic "Challenges in the application of FIDIC rules in construction contracts - Challenges from practice", organized by the Alumni Academy of the Faculty of Law of UCG and the law firm Vukmirović Mišić law firm, was held on May 31, 2023 at the Faculty of Law, bringing together numerous experts. from the fields of law, construction, economic sciences, representatives of relevant institutions and domestic economy.

 

The introductory lecture on the subject of FIDIC contracts was held by Srđan Topalović, a graduate civil engineer specializing in environmental protection and a FIDIC accredited trainer.

 

The first panel on the topic "Application of FIDIC contracts in Montenegro with reference to extraordinary circumstances in construction contracts (COVID19, price adjustment - sliding scale)" helped in understanding the application and challenges in the application of FIDIC rules in Montenegro, and on it they took participation of Vida Ristić, acting general director of the Directorate for Projects in the Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism, Dragutin Sekulović, general manager of PROCON, Marina Bošković, executive director of the Railway Infrastructure of Montenegro AD, and Ivan Petrović, partner in the law firm JPM - Janković Popović Mitić, while lawyer and Managing Partner at the Vukmirović Mišić Law Firm, Lana Vukmirović Mišić moderated the panel.

 

The second panel entitled "Dispute resolution of FIDIC contracts, the role of the Dispute Resolution Commission (DAB)" was devoted to the method of resolving disputes, and especially the role of the Dispute Resolution Commission - DAB/DAAB. Lawyer Lana Vukmirović Mišić, Srđan Topalović, civil engineer and FIDIC accredited trainer, and Dušan Arbanovski, civil engineer and master of law, member of the FIDIC presidential list of certified adjudicators, spoke on the panel. The panel was moderated by Nikolina Tomović, MSc, teaching associate at the Faculty of Law.

 

The professional meeting is another in a series of activities that the Alumni Academy of the Faculty of Law UCG organizes as part of its regular program, gathering alumni of the Faculty in constructive forums that contribute to strengthening the ties between the Faculty and its alumni, but also to a wider knowledge of specific legal issues in a certain area. The expert meeting is also an indicator of the valuable cooperation that the Faculty of Law and the Alumni Academy have with the domestic business community when it comes to monitoring current topics that require significant legal review and analysis.
